In early May, 100 of the nation's top business leaders gathered for a summit at a private resort nestled on 250 acres in California's Napa Valley. The attendees, gathered at the invitation of Silicon Valley venture capitalists, included CEOs and other top executives from such Fortune 500 corporations as Wal-Mart, Proctor & Gamble and BP. They had been invited to discuss ways to end America's fossil-fuel addiction and save the world from global warming. But in reality they had come to make money for their companies – and that may turn out to be the thing that saves us. [Read more]

My Letter To (unnamed)
April 20, 2007 | Huffington Post | Naomi Wolf
This is a love letter saying what I am never allowed to say directly to a twelve-year old daughter of someone whom I am not allowed to name. It is a celebration of who you are right now and I have to write it obliquely because if I said it to you directly you would say `Ew!' and leave the room in a dramatic huff. You were born ironic, just as your brother was born sentimental, and I can't be too mushy to your face. [Read more]
War on Bugs
War on Bugs | Will Allen | Chelsea Green Publishing
Will Allen’s War on Bugs reveals how advertisers, editors, scientists, large scale farmers, government agencies, and even Dr. Seuss, colluded to convince farmers to use deadly chemicals, hormones, and genetically modified organisms [GMOs] in an effort to pad their wallets and control the American farm enterprise. War on Bugs will be released on October 31st. Chelsea Green, his publisher, has kindly agreed to offer to us an advance excerpt of the Preface of Allen’s new book. [Read the Preface here]
Wish for 007

My wish/prediction for double 07 is that we continue to redefine the environmental movement as a social justice movement. Conversations: John Perkins
August 2007 | Conscious Choice | Charles Shaw & Keri Lynch
John Perkins first exploded into public consciousness with his 2004 New York Times best-selling expose', Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, a damning first-hand account of fifteen years spent as a corporate racketeer in the developing world. Now a trained shaman and environmentalist, Perkins spends his days traveling the world meeting with influential world leaders in an effort to expose the inner workings of American corporate imperialism. His latest book, The Secret History of the American Empire, continues the saga begun in Confessions. [Read more]
PBS NOW: Diane Wilson
David Brancaccio talks with activist Diane Wilson
Diane Wilson, a fourth-generation shrimper, began fishing the bays off the coast of East Texas at the age of eight, by 24 she was a boat captain. In 1989, while running her brother's fish house at the docks and mending nets, she read a newspaper article that listed her home of Calhoun County as the number one toxic polluter in the country. She set up a meeting in the town hall to discuss what the chemical plants were doing to the bays and thus began her life as an environmental activist. Diane waged a campaign to stop industry dumping toxins into the bay. [View the interview.]
