Last Friday, June 15th, 2012, Cambodian Living Arts (CLA) celebrated those English students who had perfect attendance for the whole semester. To reward their commitment, we gave English dictionaries and pencil cases to students who attended every class on time. CLA’s founder Arn Chorn-Pond also spent time talking with the students, mentioning how the arts was important to his journey of personal transformation and encouraging the students to put their full energy into learning the both English and the arts.
CLA’s student Kong Gne will perform Chapei Dang Weng tomorrow (Tuesday 26th of June, 2012), on the Cambodian channel Bayon TV at 6pm. Together with Sarit, another Chapei player, he will improvise a musical talk created on the spot. Chapei Dang Weng is a traditional long-neck 2-stringed guitar.

Cambodian Living Arts (CLA) will be featured in the documentary Resilient Cambodia by the American organization Sueno Relief.
Resilient Cambodia will tell the moving stories of 5 artists struggling in the wake of a tragic legacy of genocide, a current clean water crisis, and the growing tide of international influence. Art is vital to any culture, especially one such as Cambodia where art is not just a result of creative fancy, but a clear indicator of its overall health and wellbeing. These artists are living symbols of their community’s heart and history, and carry their culture’s history and identity in their practice. This film will examine the struggles of these vital but overlooked individuals, while upholding sustainable, locally-empowering organizations and responsible tourism as a road towards a bettered community.
Sueño Relief was founded in 2012 with the mission to give voice to communities in developing countries dealing with underexposed problems by creating documentaries that focus on empowering locals while honoring traditional customs. Beginning in Cambodia, Sueño Relief plans to reach out other areas.

The Wat Bo large Shadow Puppet troupe from Siem Reap is going to perform at the George Town Festival in Penang, in early July. This festival is a month-long celebration of art, music, theater, dance, opera and film to commemorate George Town's inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage listing on 7 July, 2008. The unique appeal of the festival lies in its well-balanced blend of local cultural performance and events with cutting edge international performances. We are really excited that our Shadow Puppet troupe will have the chance to participate and proud to see traditional Cambodian art forms making it onto the international stage.
